As the oldest department in the faculty of law and one of the most prestigious departments of this type in the country, this department especially deals with matters related to criminal law, criminology and criminal justice. Some of the most important courses provided by this department are: international criminal law, substantive criminal law, criminal procedure, criminal sociology and criminal policy.

Benefiting from faculty members specialized in different fields of criminal law and criminology, this department provides students in all degrees (BA, LLM, MPhil and Ph.D) with beneficial knowledge about the technical points of crime, criminal justice system function, comparative criminal law and Islamic criminal law.

Some of the most eminent academics and practitioners of criminal law and criminology in Iran, including many professors in other Iranian universities and also many of the lawyers and judges in the Iranian judiciary, have graduated from this department.
